Library of this University is ranked at 7thplace in e-resources usage at all India level and stands 1st in Tamil Nadu. Anna University has been re-accredited by NAAC with 'A' grade for 5 years starting from September 2014.
UGC has recognised Anna University as "University with Potential for Excellence (UPE)" with the research focus on "Bio-Medical Engineering and Instrumentation". This entitles the University to a total grant of Rs. 75 crores over a period of five years The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced a grant of Rs.20.00 Crore towards design and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) under TANII (Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiatives) Scheme for use during natural calamities and to keep a check on security threats and dangers. Dhaksha Team of Anna University has designed and developed indigenous micro & mini UAVs. The four drones have been supplied to State Government of Tamil Nadu Police. Each one UAV is delivered to Kolkota and Kerala Police based on their requirement.
Anna University is empaneled in Andhra Pradesh State Fibre Net Limited (APSFL) for drone based services. Anna University is ranked 3rd out of 281 contributing Universities for uploading theses in the Shodhganga Repository by submitting 5,298 theses. The INFLIBNET Centre has provided a software facility to all approved supervisors of this university to check 32,207 research articles / synopsis / thesis before submission. The University stands 2nd in India in 'h' index citations based on the research paper published by its faculty members and research scholars. Anna University has filed 413 inventions for patents and has obtained 41 patents so far. In the present year, the University has filed 140 patents and obtained 2 International patents. Centre for Technology Development and Transfer (CTDT) was established during the year 2005 to encourage Research and Technology Transfer in our University. CTDT takes initiative to help the User Agencies and the Industries in identifying possible areas of collaboration in Research activities. CTDT interacts with the Stakeholders for partnership with Industries and R&D establishment, for Research, Consultancies and Training programs of the University. Over the past four years, CTDT has received funds of Rs. 147 crores approximately through Sponsored Research projects, Testing, Technology Transfer and Training programmes.
CTDT also encourages the faculty members especially the ones who joined recently and Students of Anna University by funding for their innovative ideas through Young Faculty Scheme, Student Innovative Projects and Technology Transfer Fellowship from the revenue generated through Research projects, Testing, Technology Transfer and Training programmes. CTDT also coordinates the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) at Anna University. GIAN course is initiated by the Government of India, with the aim to enhance the quality of education offered on par with global levels. During first phase, 8 GIAN programmes have been conducted during August 2016 - January 2017. Second phase of GIAN starts from February and four courses have been approved which would be conducted during the remaining period of this year 2017
